This body of work came about through receipt of a collection of family photographs. Looking at many of the photographs, the question "Where was I?" came to mind. The question, of course, was met with the inevitable answer, "But you hadn't been born". This, especially to a child, seemed illogical and perverse.
Using photographs which mostly predate me, I have tried to create a series of dialogues with a past which is only 'known' to me through the recounting of vague family tales and myths. Semantic and photographic corrosion have taken their toll on this collection of images leading to an inevitable misreading and misunderstanding of the received history.
